In food distribution / shipping, there are several hand-offs between harvest and delivery. To accurately process and manage shipments, a carrier will issue a document called a Bill of Lading(BoL) that organizes the shipment information between all parties involved. In our client’s case, various formats of BoL’s required manual keying of line items, which was costly, error-prone and time consuming.
Our client reached out to the Image Access team to see how ImageTrust, our intelligent document processing solution, can be leveraged to streamline BoL processing and extract valuable data from unstructured documents.
The shipping carriers email their Bills of Lading (BoLs) daily to a specialized email account designed exclusively for ImageTrust intake. Next, BoL’s undergo processing within the ImageTrust workflow, ensuring Shipper BoL model identification and accurate customer reference information.
Valid documents trigger automatic extraction of key data and line-item details using custom Computer Vision(CV) and Machine Learning (ML), with high confidence thresholds, and no Human-In-The-Loop(HITL) step. If confidence thresholds or business rules aren’t met, a notification prompts user group validation, pushing the BoL forward.
The final step sends all extracted data to the shipping and billing system for conversion to an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transaction, before being sent through for processing.
